The webinar series grew out of a pre-COVID-19 idea to hold a convening of multiple stakeholders in the early care and education system in Massachusetts to share ideas for solving some of the persistent obstacles to expanding affordable access to quality early care and education in the Commonwealth. These include:
- compensating educators at professional rates of pay with benefits
- integrating professional learning and development into every level of the field
- providing opportunities for advancement
- centering the lens of racial and gender equity to our ideas
As our early care and educations programs begin opening up in Massachusetts, it’s clear that the infrastructure for the field is in more of a crisis now than it was before, and these discussions have taken on more urgency.

We have convened “Reimagining Stronger and More Equitable Systems of Early Care and Education” in partnership with Northern Essex Community College and Volta Learning Group. Presenters in this series are from Opportunities Exchange, a national leader in developing business strategies that sustain ECE programs and improve child outcomes. The ideas discussed in all three webinars derived from Opportunity Exchange’s policy brief “Reinvent vs. Rebuild.”
This webinar series is the foundation for a series of follow-up Action Labs beginning in late July. The Action Labs will be facilitated by Vital Village Networks and use their 90-Day Challenge model to turn ideas generated from these webinars into action.
