The Institute for Early Education Leadership and Innovation (Early Ed Leadership Institute) and the Goffin Strategy Group, LLC are pleased to announce that the fifth and future editions of the Early Childhood Care and Education Leadership Development Compendium: A View of the Current Landscape will be developed, edited, and published by the Early Ed Leadership Institute. Stacie Goffin, founder of the Goffin Strategy Group, LLC and the Leadership Development Compendium series, will serve as an advisor to the Early Ed Leadership Institute on the next edition of the compendium.
“The Leadership Development Compendium is an indispensable resource within the field of early childhood care and education. It tracks and analyzes the landscape of leadership development programs in the sector over time and makes visible this essential yet underdeveloped infrastructure in the field,” said Anne Douglass, PhD, Professor of Early Care and Education at UMass Boston and the founding executive director of the Early Ed Leadership Institute. “We are honored to assume responsibility for the production and publication for future editions of the Early Care and Education Leadership Development Compendium. We are thrilled to be producing the next edition with Stacie Goffin’s contribution as an advisor, and to feature her as a guest speaker in an upcoming virtual event on the state of leadership development in early care and education.”
The first edition of the Leadership Compendium, titled “Leadership Development in early care and education: A view of the current landscape,” was published in 2009. The idea for the compendium originated with Goffin, a recognized national leader in early childhood education, and the author and editor of numerous books and journal articles on early education and leadership. Subsequent editions were published in 2013, 2017, and 2021. Taken together, the four editions of the Leadership Development Compendium have captured trends in the field’s knowledge base, and the clear need for more leadership development opportunities for practitioners from every level of the field.
“I could not be more energized by Anne’s open-armed welcome to sponsor future editions of the Early Care and Education Leadership Development Compendium: A View of the Current Landscape,” said Goffin. “I’m a fan of Anne’s scholarship and her approach to leadership development. I’m confident her continuing efforts will make an important contribution to the early childhood care and education field’s leadership capacity.”
The most recent edition of the Leadership Compendium, titled “2021 Early Care and Education Leadership Development Compendium: A View of the Current Landscape, 4th Edition” was published in October 2021 and is available online. Publication of this latest edition comes at a time of unprecedented public attention to the needs of the early childhood care and education workforce.
“Cultivating leadership and retaining talent within the racially and linguistically diverse early childhood care and education workforce is a key pathway for driving improvement and equity. Early educators’ access to leadership development programs is essential to advancing the field,” said Douglass. “The Leadership Development Compendium is an important measure of this capacity.”
