Eliza Fitzgerald graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a B.S. in Geology and a minor in Anthropology in 2021. She is interested in resilience to climate change in coastal communities and the relationship between historical and present-day coastal processes. Eliza hopes to make a beneficial contribution to research and community involvement in the sciences on Cape Cod.
While working with the National Park Service, Eliza assisted with research and monitoring to establish pre-restoration sedimentation and water quality conditions on the Herring River and in Wellfleet Harbor. She also took an interest in the recently formed overwash fan and frequent tidal breaching at Duck Harbor and is excited to continue to study the area and its geomorphological and ecological changes. She will continue to work on these projects while at the Center for Coastal Studies
Eliza loves spending time outdoors, particularly on all of the beautiful beaches on ponds in Wellfleet. She is looking forward to witnessing the long-awaited Herring River restoration and starting the Marine Science and Technology graduate program at the University of Massachusetts Boston in the fall of 2022.
