Networking on the 4th of July— According to a recent report from ABC News, 80% of today’s jobs are landed through networking, but for many students the idea of networking is a bit mysterious and scary. Networking during your upcoming 4th of July cookouts and parties is an excellent opportunity to test out your networking skills in a fun, relaxed environment. You just never know…maybe that guy sitting next to you eating a hot dog is the CEO of a Fortune 500 company! Come to this workshop to gain an understanding of what networking is all about, simple techniques to ease your way into it and strategies to use it effectively as an important component of your job search. Making the most of your summer job/internship— Are you currently working in a job or internship this summer and wondering how to make the most of it with regard to your future career? If so, you should attend this helpful workshop to learn how to leverage your summer experience. We will cover topics including ways to impress your supervisor and colleagues, how to write about your experience on your resume, ways to effectively network on the job, how to get a recommendation from your supervisor, and ways to increase your chances of receiving a full-time job offer after graduation. Job Search and Application Process-– The job search and application process can sometimes be confusing and overwhelming. This workshop will teach you how to navigate UMass Boston’s My Career Online as well as how to effectively search the major Internet job databases and apply on company websites. You will also learn about applicant tracking systems and why the use of key words on your resume and cover letter is critical in your job search. International Students and the Job Search–As an international student, you face specific career challenges in trying to secure employment in the United States. In this workshop you will learn effective job search techniques and strategies based on the book and website Power Ties by Dan Beaudry. Dan is a proven expert in the area of providing career advice for international students.
