Apply for the Krystle Campbell Scholarship

UMass Boston mourns the tragic loss of Krystle Campbell who was killed senselessly in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. The university honored Krystle’s memory through its award of a posthumous degree to the former student in 2013 and the establishment of a scholarship in her name. The scholarship was set up by University of Massachusetts Trustee Richard P. Campbell, J.D. (no relation).

The Krystle Campbell Scholarship will support scholarships that advance young women, like Krystle Campbell, interested in pursuing careers in business.

One Award of $5,000 will be made to a student who meets the criteria below:

  • Full-time Undergraduate Student
  • Female Student in the College of Management
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must have an interest in pursuing a career in business
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

To apply students must first complete a general application at https://umb.academicworks.com/ and then also click “Apply” to The Krystle Campbell Scholarship Fund and answer the additional scholarship specific question.

The deadline for scholarship submission is Wednesday, March 11th.

This scholarship will be applied to the 2015-2016 academic year, so applicants would have to be planning on being enrolled next year.

Please contact the merit scholarship office with any questions at merit.scholarships@umb.edu.

Fall Advising Holds Are On – Make Your Advising Appointment NOW!

Fall 2015 Advising Holds have been placed on all CM students who have not applied to graduate this spring or summer. Which means NOW is the time to make an appointment to see your academic advisor to have your hold lifted. Please note that there will be VERY limited advising availability over spring break, and we expect long waits for advising after spring breakbut advisors are available to meet with you now, before spring break.  Fall and Summer registration begins on April 6, 2015 and your individual enrollment appointment (which indicates the time and date you will have access to registration on Wiser) will be posted to Wiser in the coming weeks.

You can find your assigned advisor on your Wiser account.  The CM Advising Team is:

Tomorrow is the Career Fair, are you ready?!?

The Career Fair is TOMORROW from 1 to 4pm in the Campus Center Ballrooms!  Are you prepared?  Have you registered and researched the companies who will be attending, and have a game plan for talking with each of them?  Have you polished your resume?  Do you have an elevator pitch (15-30 seconds on who you are and what you’re looking for?)  Are you planning to bring something professional to collect things in?  (A bag or pad-folio can go a long way!)  And, last but not least, are you prepared to be professionally dressed?

Business etiquette for professional attire can vary based on gender.  Here are some helpful tips when considering attire for the Career Fair.

Men: Your suit should fit, be ironed, nicely tailored, and conservative regarding color choices.  A tie is almost always a good idea, and make sure you have shined, closed-toed shoes (with matching socks) as well. Your shoes and belt should match if you choose to wear one, be careful of too much cologne, and make sure your facial hair is kept neat.  Piercings and tattoos should be minimized or covered if possible.

Women: Your suit should fit, be nicely tailored, avoid overpowering patterns, and be conservative regarding color choices.  Avoid distracting jewelry, revealing clothing, overpowering perfume, and makeup that could be considered distasteful.  Shined, closed toes shoes with low heels are recommended (you will be standing for some time).

All students:  Make sure your hair is neat, choose mints over gum, and leave your phone in your pocket/bag unless you’re using it to take down some employer information!  And remember…the best thing you can wear is a smile!

Reminder, check IN with Career Services at the elevators for the Campus Center 3rd floor, and check OUT for MAP miles at the elevators after you’re finished.  We will start checking out at approximately 1:45pm, so you should plan to spend some time with all the employers in the room!
