Last Day to RSVP for the Accounting, Finance and Business Career Fair!

Are you prepared?  Have you registered and researched the companies who will be attending, and have a game plan for talking with each of them?  Have you polished your resume?  Do you have an elevator pitch (15-30 seconds on who you are and what you’re looking for?)  Are you planning to bring something professional to collect things in?  (A bag or pad-folio can go a long way!)  And last but not least, are you prepared to be professionally dressed?

Business etiquette for professional attire can vary based on gender.  Here are some helpful tips when considering attire for the Career Fair.

Men: Your suit should fit, be ironed, nicely tailored, and conservative regarding color choices.  A tie is almost always a good idea, and make sure you have shined, closed-toed shoes (with matching socks) as well. Your shoes and belt should match if you choose to wear one, be careful of too much cologne, and make sure your facial hair is kept neat.  Piercings and tattoos should be minimized or covered if possible.

Women: Your suit should fit, be nicely tailored, avoid overpowering patterns, and be conservative regarding color choices.  Avoid distracting jewelry, revealing clothing, overpowering perfume, and makeup that could be considered distasteful.  Shined, closed toes shoes with low heels are recommended (you will be standing for some time).

All students:  Make sure your hair is neat, choose mints over gum, and leave your phone in your pocket/bag unless you’re using it to take down some employer information!  And remember…the best thing you can wear is a smile!

Reminder, check IN with Career Services at the elevators on the 3rd floor, and check OUT for MAP miles at the elevator after you’re finished.  We will start checking out at approximately 3:30pm, but you should plan to spend some time with the employers in the room!

Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business Intercollegiate Business Convention: October 18

Each year, Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business organizes the Intercollegiate Business Convention, a forum for driven young women to discuss relevant and emerging trends, gain both concrete skills and applicable advice, and join a network of encouraging peers and inspiring professionals who will guide and engage them throughout their careers. Now in its tenth year, IBC attracts over 1,200 registrants and over 100 professionals from a diverse range of industries. This year, IBC attendees will have the opportunity to hear from three inspirational keynote speakers: Lyndsey Scott, Maureen Chiquet, and Jill Abramson. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from speakers in a variety of fields on panels and workshops throughout the day. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to build their professional network during the career fair and networking sessions with company representatives. There will be representatives from over 100 companies in attendance including Facebook, Goldman Sachs, Oliver Wyman, Morgan Stanley, and Saks Fifth Avenue, so this is a great opportunity for those students who are looking to secure a job or internship for next summer.

IBC 2014 will be held on Saturday October 18 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The convention is the keystone event of Women in Business Weekend, which will be held from Thursday to Sunday, October 16-19, 2014. The weekend will be composed of social events and additional learning opportunities, including innovation workshops, networking events, and the launch of our annual publication, Make it Happen Magazine.

We are reaching out to you in particular because we would like to strengthen our connections with the Boston community, and we would love to meet some of your students at the convention this fall. For this reason, we are pleased to offer your students a $10 discount on convention tickets! You can register now at attend.com/IBC using the promotional code ibc.x.boston to receive this discount. Attached please find a brief informational packet about IBC 2014. For updated information regarding speakers and daily programming, please visit our website or our Facebook page.
