Doctoral Dissertation Research Grant Program at UMass Boston

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies annually provides funds to support the dissertation research activities of doctoral candidates through the Doctoral Dissertation Research Grant Program.

  • Eligibility: Doctoral Students whose dissertation proposals have been formally approved by their dissertation committees
  • Application deadline: Applications can be submitted at any time, but will only be reviewed twice a year. Proposals submitted by Friday, December 11, 2015, at 5:00 pm will be reviewed during the last two weeks of December. Proposals submitted by Friday, May 13, 2016 at 5:00 pm will be reviewed during the last two weeks of May.
  • Awards announced: During the last week of the Spring or Fall Semester
  • Maximum award: $5,000

Funding Opportunities Available from the Graduate Student Assembly at UMass Boston

The Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) provides the following funding opportunities for graduate students.

  • Dr. Robert W. Spayne Research Grant (for work leading to a master’s thesis or capstone project)
  • Craig R. Bollinger Memorial Research Grant (for work leading to a doctoral dissertation)
  • Professional Development Grants (to provide opportunities to attend academic conferences)
  • Chancellor’s Distinguished Dissertation and Thesis Awards
