iPads in the Classroom

Enhancing teaching and Learning with iPads

iPad in the Classroom Kickoff Breakfast

This morning we had our support team and iPad professors get together over a breakfast in the Digital Learning Studio.  It was great to hear professors talk about   how they plan to use the iPad in their teaching.  Marc Prou of  Africana Studies will be participating as will David Patterson of Music, Marc Pawlak of  Quantitative   Mathematics, and  Amy Todd of Anthropology in the program.  The IT liaisons met with their partners and were able to discuss  a broad range of technical and substantive issues.   Thank you Eileen McMahon, John Mazzarella, Irene Yukhananov, Jessica Downa, Apurva Mehta, Ellie Kutz for your participation.  These faculty liaisons will be  visit the classes of the iPad participants during the fall semester.

Thank you, Bob Conway, Janet Stewart,  and Theresa Maceira for  supporting the iPad availability at the circulation desk  e-Books availability on iPads. There will be four iPads available for students in classes where the mobile carts are deployed .  A list of students enrolled in courses with iPads  will be sent to the Circulation Desk.  The distribution of iPads will be limited to  the students in those courses.

Thank you Chris Pahud, Bob Fitzgerald, John Potter, Brian Butler,  Peter Adams,  and Venu Garag for helping support the deployment of iPads in the classroom and  mobile cart.

At our Kickoff event  we showed a _iPadClassroom_Presentation_   on all the computer monitors and on a projection screen to provide information about technical support teams, IT liaison and instructor partnerships,  and scheduled  media events.  The IT Liaisons will be celebratory visitors in the classroom to observe and assist the iPad classroom.

We hope to deploy the mobile cart to some classrooms next week. The mobile cart is still under construction.  We are going to have to acquire a hub that will provide seamless wi-fi access.  Luckily, we have a great team together to provide all the scaffolding necessary to implement the mobile technology efficiently.  Many professors are anxious to get their apps installed on their iPad and on student iPads.  We are waiting for the vouchers to purchase apps.  IT Liaisons will contact their partners within the next two weeks about this.

Although there was a good turnout for the Kickoff, some professors were unable to attend because of their teaching schedule.  The rolling slide show will be posted on the wiki and sent out via email to all participants.  IT Liaisons will contact their teaching partners during the first two weeks of classes to confirm the apps they wish to deploy, and to offer general assistance.

Please note the  specific time line activities  that all participants should be aware of through  the slide presentation .

We are looking forward to working with you.
