CINE 276L – Italian Cinema Meets Mon-Wed 12:00-1:50 PM
An in-depth study of Italian society and culture through film, starting from the neorealist period and its legacy. This course will also cover the flourishing of popular cinema in the aftermath of Neorealism, from the mid-Sixties to the mid-Seventies, analyzing genres such as the Spaghetti Western and the Giallo. Films will range from works by classic art cinema directors (such as Fellini, Antonioni, and Pasolini) to the new generation of Italian filmmakers. Thinking with the films as much as through them, we will address questions related to Italian history, politics and culture.
