Notice for Sp 13 and Sum 13 graduates

The registrar has sent out the following early notice for graduate students, who are planning to graduate in the Spring ’13 or Summer ’13 semesters. Please see below and note the process for applying for graduation.

We would like to inform you of the deadline for applying to graduate.  If you anticipate completing all degree requirements by May 31, 2013 or August 31, 2013, the deadline to turn in your degree application to the Registrar’s Office is Friday, March 15, 2013.

Procedure to file for graduation:

Degree applications are available for you to print out and are located at http://www.umb.edu/registrar/. If you are in the College of Management, or are a Nursing or Clinical Psychology student, please select the correct degree application. Students in all other programs should select the General Degree Application.

Click on “Graduation”, then click on “Applying for Graduation”. Scroll down and choose the correct degree application.

You must complete the degree application in its entirety, sign, and date it. We will NOT accept any incomplete degree applications. Writing “See attached” on the degree application and submitting a transcript is NOT sufficient. We  suggest printing an unofficial copy of your transcript to facilitate recording all courses, grades and transfer credit information on the degree application. You can request your unofficial transcript through WISER. Please note that the transcript does not need to be turned in with the degree application. The completed degree application must be turned in to the Registrar’s Office by the due date of March 15, 2013.

Your Degree Application will then be reviewed and signed by your Graduate Program Director. If there are any outstanding issues with your degree requirements that will prevent you from graduating on the date you requested, you will be notified by your Graduate Program Director.

Please be aware you must be in good academic, administrative, and financial standing in order to receive your degree. This includes being registered for courses or having registered for the program fee for the Spring 2013 semester. Any outstanding obligations will prevent your degree from being awarded. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Registrar’s Office.

Potential May and August graduates will be invited to attend the May 31, 2013 commencement ceremony.

The deadline of March 15, 2013 will be strictly enforced.

Fall graduation process – new process will begin next week

The Registrar’s Office has changed the Degree Application Processing procedure for graduate students beginning with the upcoming December graduating class.

All active graduate students with 20 credits or more will receive an e-mail from the Registrar’s Office informing them of the following:

1) They must complete the appropriate degree application form and return it to the Registrar’s Office. The applications can be found on the Registrar’s website. All applications will go to the Registrar’s office first.

2) The deadline to file their degree application for a December degree date is October 12, 2012.

Students who have completed more than 20 credits will receive this email from the Registrar’s Office shortly, probably sometime next week. Please pay close attention to the instructions in this email, as the process has changed from previous years.

Please keep in mind that you will receive this email once you have completed more than 20 credits, however the degree requirements for the College of Management Graduate programs require between 30-57 credits to complete. You will still need to verify that you have completed all degree requirements, as specified in your course planning guides, which can be found on the student resources page, under Course Curriculum Planning Guides.

If you are completing a second degree: You need to fill out and submit an application for each degree that you are completing, during the semester that you will complete each degree. For example, if you are enrolled in both the MBA program and the MSIT program, but you are completing your MBA degree requirements this Fall, but still have courses to complete for the MSIT program in the Spring, you would only apply for graduation for the MBA program for the Fall. Then in the Spring, you would apply again for graduation for the MSIT degree.
