This week we’ve been working on a number of areas at the Sarah Boston Site. First, we’ve been having some luck defining the edges of the cellar feature, in large part due to the efforts of Lauren and Miles, who have been hard at work on the southern wall since we started a few weeks ago. The new 3d image below (compiled from images taken June 20) really shows the definition they are getting with the rock courses and the nice flat interior faces. Previously, we’d only been able to locate one in-tact wall segment in the northeast corner of the foundation. That segment was excavated in 2010. Moira is also getting some nice definition in the Northwest corner of the foundation. While that section has been excavated in previous years, we hadn’t really defined a standing wall in that area until this week! I’ll have more imaging on that section next time.
We’ve also had some success with the drain feature. Thanks to John Steinberg and his GPR and EM surveys, we’ve located it in at least 2 other excavation units downslope from the house. We are now planning to uncap it and see if the channel found near the house really does extend all the way down the hill.
