First of all, the UMass Boston Entrepreneurship Center will hold it’s introductory event on 6/15 at 5:30pm in the Venture Development Center. And you’re all invited. The EC’s goal is to enhance UMass Boston’s position as a significant source of highly skilled, well-educated professionals and leaders for the region’s next-generation entrepreneurial economy. But what exactly does that mean to the students of UMass Boston?
The EC has a significant advisory/mentor board consisting of many of the top entrepreneurs in the area including UMass Boston alumni who are committed to working with our students to help develop their careers in the start-up community as well as launch their own start-ups. We will be holding workshops and events every semester for networking, workforce development skills, and start-up assistance. For students launching their own start-ups we will have ongoing assistance and guidance from industry professionals. And for students who want to build careers in this start-up economy, with the assistance of our advisory/mentor board we will continue to expand our very successful Student Entrepreneur Intern Program (StEP) well beyond the 50 paid internships we have realized to date.
In addition, over the next year we will be rolling out an entrepreneur scholarship program, buisness plan competition, and funding assistance to help our student based start-ups progress. And when you combine the EC with the Entrepreneur Specialization in the College of Management and the Venture Development Center, UMass Boston truly has an environment where we teach, practice, and live entrepreneurship.
So, please join us 5:30pm – 7pm in the Venture Development Center to continue our path to being a significant provider of highly skilled, well educated professionals and leaders for the region’s next-generation entrepreneurial economy
