CIOCS Signature Collaborator Battelle is recruiting for two entry-level technical and research positions: Research Associate (full-time) and a Technician (part-time, as needed).

Research Associate (Full-Time, Permanent)
Duxbury, MA

Battelle’s Environmental Product Line specializes in a science-based approach to protect and manage environmental resources – particularly those related to the coastal, marine, and freshwater environment. The Environmental Assessment and Monitoring (EAM) Section include field and environmental services support work. The field team currently participates in a variety of programs in support of environmental and engineering projects, watershed management, water resource modeling, marine and freshwater ecosystem monitoring, and natural resource assessments.

Our Environmental Product Line is currently seeking a Research Associate. This position is located in Duxbury, MA.

The successful candidate will be a team player with experience in conducting a variety of environmental field surveys. Typical work will include sediment, water, and/or ground water sampling and collection of in situ (geographic, hydrographic, sensor) data in support of environmental assessments. The ideal candidate will be attentive to detail and cognizant of industry quality standards for environmental field sampling. He/she will be expected to conduct environmental field investigations under the general supervision of a project/program manager and to contribute to project planning, team coordination, subcontractor management, logistics planning, and operation and maintenance of survey equipment. Work will include a mix of field and office assignments and occasional travel will be required. The successful candidate will also have knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures within the marine science field and uses established procedures to perform assigned technical work under the direction of more senior research staff. In addition to the field work, the successful candidate will assist more senior research staff and project managers in the evaluation and interpretation of scientific data as well as be responsible for specific portions of projects as assigned and provides solutions to an assortment of problems. In addition to the field work, the successful candidate will also support non-field projects and will display the capability to be flexible and adaptable in a multiple project environment.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
· BA/BS in biology, environmental science, oceanography or related field and 2- 4 years experience in conducting environmental field surveys.
· Experience in the acquisition of survey data using a variety of field sampling equipment (hydrographic instrumentation, sediment grabs, sediment corers, geophysical instruments, etc) is required.
· Candidates must have proven written and verbal skills and competence with basic word processing programs and spreadsheets.
· Competence with basic navigational tools is also required.

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

· MS in biology, environmental science, or related field.
· Current 40-hour OSHA training.

Technician (Part-Time, As-Needed)

No hours are guaranteed for this position. The position will be called upon to support field surveys as the staffing is required. Every effort will be made to provide advance planning for staffing to include this position where necessary.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
· High School Diploma and 2- 4 years experience in conducting environmental field surveys.
· Experience in the acquisition of survey data using a variety of field sampling equipment (hydrographic instrumentation, sediment grabs, sediment corers, geophysical instruments, etc) is required.
· Candidates must have proven written and verbal skills and competence with basic word processing programs and spreadsheets.
· Competence with basic navigational tools is also required.

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

· B.S./B.A. in biology, environmental science, or related field.
· Current 40-hour OSHA training.
