In this series of dialogues, we consider the role of reflective practice for thinking critically and creatively about work and life. Reflective Practice is relevant to any field and refers to how we make connections between our past experiences and future actions. For each participatory hour-long session, we focus on one theme that represents a common challenge to the reflective practitioner. We use a structured dialogue process to support each participant to recall and make sense of their experience and then develop ideas about where they might change their practices to support their ongoing and future encounters with that challenge.
Theme for September 20, 2023: Reflective Practice for Managing Unexpected Life and Work Transitions
“It doesn’t seem possible to continue along previous lines.”
Full description of the theme: This theme explores ways that our unexpected life and work transitions contribute to our reflective practice. Through our dialogue, we consider what it means to us now to look back on past transitions and use this hindsight to move ahead. What have we learned through these experiences about ourselves, our values and motivations, and the possibilities for new types of responses to unexpected situations going forward? How does this influence our way of managing things now and the level of change that takes place in our lives and workplaces?
