John Player & Sons 1839-1939 Cycling Card Set

Based in Nottingham, England, John Player & Sons was one of the first UK tobacco companies to add collectible cigarette cards to their packs in 1893. In 1939, John Player & Sons released a set of fifty cycling cards celebrating 100 years of bicycle history by including collectible cards in packs of cigarettes. They were produced in sets of fifty. As seen here, the images ranged from tandem bikes to bicycle polo to saddles from 1839-1939. The back of each card features a short history lesson related to the image.
