Urban Scholars: ICA
Urban Scholars students attend weekly workshops at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) as part of their summer time curriculum. Students will have the opportunity to take a class for a week on different subjects, including fashion design, dj’ing, music video production, and photography.
One group of students designed shirts that represented their identity, displaying their culture with colors and flags. Another group created a mix tape by blending music from some of their favorite musical acts, using state of the art computers and turn tables. And a third group directed, produced, and edited a short film.
As former Urban Scholar students, Jennie and I didn’t get the chance to take courses at the ICA. Personally, I am amazed to see students partaking in these interactive subjects because it shows the evolution of the Urban Scholars Program.
I’ve always wanted to do DJ’s. Its a great experience in which I could have the possibility of exploring my musical world. One day I wants to be a “Just A Rapper”. With the the ability of collaborating with DJs and poetry not only can I make my own tune, but also to have my own personal buddy in this world I called music.
This summer I did the 2nd part of the photography program. At first it was a reminder of what elements factor in when you take a picture. As the program went on, I learned more about how to take better pictures with more advanced settings like the shutter speed of your camera. Overall, the ICA was a good experience and helpes me take better pictures both now and in the future
I did fashion design!! It was real fun, I learned alot about clothes and fashion.I also liked the fruit guy outside the ica he had some nice fruits. I loved the ica can’t wait for next summer #orange team!!!!!!!!!!
I Believe the Work you Guys are doing Writting about thé different activities we as youth in thèse programs is great and CAN cause other su dents to want to join these programs

The ICA offers great workshops. It’s great to see that fellow members of the program at all grade levels were able to take advantage of this opprotunity to express themselves through different kinds of art,
