  1. This article is very accurate not just to parents but to anyone who spends a lot of time with children. From my experience I have seen my nephews copy me when I’m brushing my hair or putting on deodorant. This article is very true that we need to cautious on what we do around toddlers. It’s really interesting that most of the words that children learn at one is “baba” because most of our sounds are so similar to the word “baba” for toddlers. Imitation is great when it comes to learning but also bad because sometimes adults don’t realize what they do around children and eventually the child will imitate there moves or other things.

  2. I believe this article shed a lot of light to a common sense problem that most people are shocked to read about. People generally assume that toddlers are the most impressionable, most people are still impressionable all the way until there early twenties. Toddlers though are in all ways dependent on their parents or anyone who comes around them for a sense of social appropriateness. There are many grown ups in todays world who are not careful about there actions and don’t understand that the child is watching them and mimics their actions. This is an issue in today’s society because many kids in the generation growing up believe that they can be disrespectful to others but this is not because of a genetics issue but because they believe it is right set by the example their parent put forth for them.

  3. This article is on point. Children just watch everything going on around them and repeat it when they want. They are so observant. My younger cousin very quickly started picking up on the language of my other cousins and I. By not watching our actions we’re teaching these kids all the horrible things we say and do. Acting angry and aggressive will rub off on our children and that is exactly what we don’t want to happen.

  4. Children are incredibly impressionable and some people fail to recognize this sometimes. It’s frustrating that it okay for younger kids to be able to say derogatory language and be considered, “Cute.” That reinforcement sticks with them until they are older. And they become confused since from a young age, it’s been enforced. Parents, friends, and other individuals need to have a conscious awareness to these things to avoid this confusion later on in development.

As we have learned in class true imitation is copying the actions of other. The article emphasized how the child began to imitate the father at an early age, persisting throughout toddler-hood. I think that the early stages of development are crucial in children’s, in order to develop their skills. At the early stage of development is when their cognitive abilities start to form; which is linked to reasoning, problem solving skills, and memory. Throughout the stages of development parents are role models for their child’s to develop their abilities. Since the children cognitive abilities aren’t fully develop their abilities are strengthened through imitation. This pattern would change in adulthood, as learned in class adults are more likely to emulate other actions to reach the same goal. Overall the article demonstrates some of the concepts learned in class regarding observational learning, in children’s. I think the article is helpful, and give us a better perspective on how we could influence a child behavior. As individuals, caregivers, etc. we must be careful on what kind of behavior we portrayed around children’s.

  6. I agree with what others are saying about this article shedding a lot of light on the development of children. As we’ve all learned, cognitive development begins at a very young age. This article is showing that it’s imitation of those around them that show toddlers how they should behave. They’re getting “rewards” for this behavior, i.e. bonding with daddy or mommy laughing. It is in this way that the parents mentioned in this article, as well as anyone else who spends plenty of time around young children and toddlers that have an affect on how the child will grow up, in terms of their abilities to problem solve as they get older. I thought this article was very informative, however I wish there was some statistical data,or other evidence of this,as it seems that the article is mostly just written in a “this child did this, because of this” way; Im curious as to how they actually know their reasoning for why children act this way is correct. I’m not saying their incorrect, as I do believe children learn by imitating what they see (in an observational learning sense), and they must be rewarded getting in some form, (otherwise they wouldn’t continue to imitate), I just think having another form of data would make their argument that much stronger.

  7. This article reminded me of the time my son was almost 2. He would come down to the basement with either me or my wife while we did the laundry. We would take the wet clothes out of the washer and place them on the opened, horizontal dryer door and then push them into the dryer. One day my son, as I was throwing clothes onto the dryer door, started trying to push them in. Through observational learning he was trying to imitate his parents. As he was not strong enough to push an entire load of wet clothes into the dryer, I would throw one article of clothing at a time onto the opened dryer door and he would then throw the article of clothing into the dryer, not true imitation but emulation.

  8. This is a pretty accurate article. I have had experiences where ive seen toddlers imitate not only their parents but siblings as well. They also love imitating the way you say things and what you say so you always have to becareful what you say around children that age.My firneds child who is now 2 was quite the imitator and would repeat everything you say. Every morning she would wake up and see her mother pick up her book bag and leave for school one day she woke up and picked up a her little baby bag and walked towards the door and waved as if she was going somewhere. She that just goes to show little ones love imitating and it is very interesting

  9. I really can related to this article, not only because we just learned in class how imitation works in humans and animals, but because I used most of the methods described here with my little brother when he was around 2 years old, he is 7 now. I realized he was always observing everything me and my parents used to do and he would immediately try to imitate us. Also, the article mentions that “it’s the instant connection that mimicry creates between parent and child”, I personally think this is very important for both the child and the parents (In my case the brother-sister relationship) because parents can create a strong relation and a better connection with their children. Another point I found very interesting, is how the article gives some tips in order for people to make this great experience even better. One of them was “Be a good role model”, this can apply to my case because I always tried to give my little brother a great example by teaching him with my actions and trying to avoid any bad behavior. It’s totally amazing how humans work and all the things we are capable to do since we are very young, and how this make an impact in our behavior as adults.

  10. Responsibility does not come in one day. Kids see their elders and slowly learn how to take care of things and how to be responsible. The responsibility can be about money matters, household activities, outside activities, family, and many more. When you are responsibly managing things, your kids will see you and will try to imitate the same in order to become as perfect as you are. This will surely do great work in making them responsible in the long run.

  17. This is an interesting topic. A child always tries to imitate his parents, because this is inherent in nature. I am a medical student studying relationship psychology. I have always been interested in the topic of the relationship between children and parents, I even wrote an essay about it. It’s good that experts from nursing essay writers ,were able to help me understand all the nuances of this topic and found interesting information for me.
