Background

The Northeast Geographic Information Society (NEGIS) was formed May 1, 2014 as a not-for-profit corporation [501 (c) (3)] organized under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 180. NEGIS serves the northeast region of North America.

Mission Statement

The NEGIS is a professional organization dedicated to disseminate information about Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and to give scholarships to college students engaged in GIS related programs and/or studies. These scholarships consist of a cash award and a summer internship in the GIS industry. NEGIS is interested in all applications and users of GIS including, but not limited to:

  • Utilities
  • Facility Management
  • Surveying
  • Waste Water Management
  • Lidar and Remote Sensing
  • UAV’s (Drones)
  • Low altitude Photogrammetric Mapping with Digital Sensors.

NEGIS looks forward to collaboration with other like-minded GIS professionals and organizations. Our initial effort was the spring 2015 conference to raise GIS awareness and discussion of hot topics in the GIS industry and to provide hands-on workshops for new technology. This event funded the first round of NEGIS scholarships, which were awarded spring 2016 to Ahna Miller, Clarke University and Philip Gomez, Dartmouth College!
