In WISER Self-Service students may use “permission numbers” to enroll in some classes that are already full or that require the consent of the instructor or that have pre- or co-requisites that the student does not meet.

The student obtains the permission number, usually from the instructor, then logs into WISER Student Self Service and enters the permission number to enroll in the class.

What you need to know about permission numbers:

  • Permission numbers are randomly generated by the system.
  • A permission number may be used only once. Therefore, if you will be distributing them to students, you are advised to print out the list of permission numbers, carry it with you, and cross off each number on the list as you give it to a student.
  • A permission number may be used to enroll only in the class for which it was generated.
  • All permission numbers will expire at the end of the Add/Drop period.
  • A permission number will not override the following restrictions:
    • The student is already enrolled for the maximum number of credits.
    • The student is enrolled in a class during the same time period.

Faculty members may access permission numbers by clicking on an icon in the My Teaching Schedule section of the Faculty Center – My Schedule page. Staff members with proper access may access them in the student administration system by following the steps below.
