Our Upward Bound rising seniors had the opportunity to start the college admissions process early through the Senior Seminar Course. Over the six weeks of summer program, students were responsible for completing the following tasks: developing a college list, a resume, and a rough draft of their college essay. Student also gained a better understanding of the college admissions process through activities and projects, which included the mock admissions activity and the college fair final project. Students will also learned more about the college application process, financial literacy, what to expect from college and anything else that will assist them in their college pursuit.
College Fair Research Project
As the students come to complete their 6 weeks in the Senior Seminar, we wanted the student to put themselves in the shoes of an Admission Counselor. They were tasked with creating a presentation about a college of their choice as if they were an admissions counselor working at that school. The students would complete research in order to collect important information that prospective students would need in order to better understand the school and to better understand their application process. The goal of this project is to get students better equipped to conduct their own research so that when it is time to create their own college list, they have the skills to curate a list suited for them and find schools that fit their needs.
