Tina Randall doctoral student in the Applied Linguistics department presented her research titled Memes!: The impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on ethnolinguistic representations in a Facebook Group at the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) 2023 Conference as Sociolinguistics (SOC) and Language and Ideology (LID) strands in Portland, Oregon. Her research explores linguistic changes in Facebook by Russian and Ukrainian members during the Russia-Ukraine war that started on February 24, 2022. Tina investigates shifts in language choice and thematic shifts in the memes toward war-related content from February 17 to March 3, 2022. Tina relies on the frameworks of indexicality, stance-taking, and intertextuality in her research.
