All doctoral students in our department are passionate educators who teach different languages in a variety of multilingual settings. For example, Rachel La Russo, a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Linguistics Department, has been teaching English Critical Analysis, Critical Reading and Writing, and Grammar in Pathways and Multilingual Programs at UMass Boston since 2020. Rachel has a lot of experience working with multilingual students.
Rachel reflects: “I teach Grammar and Critical Reading and Writing courses in UMB’s pre-collegiate English Language Program. It has been both personally and professionally so enriching to be able to apply what I’ve learned in my Ph.D. coursework to working with multilingual learners. I look forward to returning to teaching after I spend Spring 2023 writing my dissertation.”
