Congratulations Dr. Urbanski and Tina Randall on the paper accepted for publication in Language and Sociocultural Theory journal!
The article “Development of a Computerized Dynamic Assessment Program for Second Language Grammar Instruction and Assessment,” by Tina Randall and Dr. Kimberly Urbanski has been accepted for publication in the Language and Sociocultural Theory journal. The study discusses the development of a computerized dynamic assessment (CDA) program and how it was implemented in a classroom setting to test out its usability and usefulness. The focus of this paper is on the development of the program, with results of implementation being in preparation for further articles. The CDA program was developed to allow for individualized mediation in settings where instructors are normally not able to provide one-on-one mediation due to time constraints or the large number of students. The program helps the instructor or researcher develop student understanding of second language grammatical features, and it also serves as a diagnosis and assessment tool. The effectiveness of the program was evaluated vis-à-vis static assessments by comparing control and CDA groups in terms of micro and macrogenetic development of SFL students’ ability to conjugate Spanish verbs in the future tense, on the basis of mediated and unmediated individual and group scores.
