What Does Racism Look Like in French Foreign Language Education?

Julia Donnelly Spiegelman was honored to have a book chapter included in a volume published by Palgrave this spring, entitled Diversity and Decolonization in French Studies: New Approaches to Teaching. Julia’s chapter demonstrated the subtle ways in which racism is encoded and reproduced in discourse on non-French Francophone people and places. Julia proposes a pedagogical framework to promote critical engagement with these harmful patterns, empowering teachers and students to make visible and challenge bias as it appears in materials and in the discipline. Julia also serves as co-facilitator of the K-12 & Higher Ed Partnership working group of the Diversity, Decolonization, and the French Curriculum (DDFC) Collective. https://ddfccollective.weebly.com/
