Multimodality VS. Multimedia

Multimodality – Using one or more methods of communication in a text to create meaning. When defining multimodality it is important to take into account the different ways that meaning can be created through such as image, writing, layout, speech, moving images and more. Examples of a multimodal text includes picture books, newspapers, advertisements, and comic or graphic novels. Multimodality deals with the senses that are stimulated by different systems. 

Multimodality example:

Multimedia – When one or more methods of media are used to transport information from the system to the user. Five basic elements of multimedia include text, images, audio, video, animation. An example of multimedia included an audio slideshow or an animated video. 

Multimedia example:

Multimodality focuses on the design and process whereas multimedia places emphasis on the production of a text.
