Going on a tour bus and exploring the city, it is apparent that Glasgow is a city rich in history and culture. Within less than a two mile radius from the hotel, there are hundreds of things to do and places to see. So far, we have kept ourselves pretty busy, trying to explore and get the most out of this trip!

Glasgow Caledonian University is completely different from UMB. For starters, the second semester freshmen here only attend school three days a week! Our host students study biomedical sciences, in the hopes of working in research labs, or becoming doctors. Their courses include the same sort of coursework, and their overall formatting is very similar, making it an easy transition for anyone interested in study abroad!

A couple of blocks from the university, there is a grand cathedral and necropolis. The structure and design of both sites are incredible, and truly show the rich and valuable history of the city.

The Glasgow Necropolis, facing the cathedral, has around 50,000 resting places! Known as the City of the Dead, the Necropolis was established in the early 1830s but contains memories of people from as far back as the 1500s.

Glasgow Cathedral, also known as St. Mungo’s Cathedral, has been around for about 900 years. Today, it is used as an attraction site and, unfortunately, is no longer used as a cathedral. Currently, there is some construction around in efforts to restore the building. From the main entrance of the cathedral, you can find a gift shop, which includes general souvenir gifts. The cathedral has large organs, which I can only imagine would full up the room with church music. The cathedral was large enough to fit somewhere around 200 people comfortably (although I’m not entirely sure because that was just an eyeballed guess). On the bottom floor, there were several tombs and an alley describing the history of the building.
