Addiction is a hard and awful things that breaks and ruins lives. The addiction to substances such as alcohol and drugs is the most prevalent in today’s society and the worst for any person and family to face. For scientists to be coming up with new and useful methods to break the addiction of drugs such as heroin with more reasonable methods that don’t lead to farther addiction is outstanding. By treating the more neural parts of the brain and inhibiting the facts of the drug might be a breakthrough in treating addiction.

Heroin is a lethal drug and users often find themselves hopelessly addicted in a short amount of time. While treatments exist for drugs like heroin, they are not as effective as they should be. What the scientists at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health discovered is actually groundbreaking. This is a drug that reeks havoc on the brain’s reward center by stimulating the production of dopamine. Understanding how it manages to get to the brain in the first place is crucial to identifying effective treatment options. There is still a lot we don’t know about how the brain works. This research could help us understand how other drugs effect the brain and how addiction works in general. The most amazing part of this article is that, thanks to this research, experimental treatments are actually being created and tested. So many people seek help for heroine addiction at methadone clinics and end up addicted to the very drug used to treat them. These alternative forms of treatment address the properties that allow heroin to transform thus reducing and maybe even eliminating its damaging effects on the brain.

Addiction is such a sensitive and tricky issue to deal with. It has huge negative impacts on both the addict and people closest to the addict. As stated in class, two forms of treatment for addiction are cognitive therapy and medication therapy. This article is definitely inspiring as it allows us know there may possibly be a drug that just blocks the heroin drug from even being able to enter the brain/body. That is great, but I think cognitive therapy is just as important to help fight addiction. This article didn’t seem to touch on that aspect of treatment. Perhaps it was supposed to be understood that if this new innovative drug is taken, some sort of therapy must also be in effect. If the two forms of treatment are carried out together, I feel that the addict would have more hope to get on the road to recovery.

Addiction is such a complex subject as it does affect the brain in so many ways. Long term drug use changes the structure and function of the brain. As more neurotransmitters are released into the brain this also increases the more chances that the drug will have a “high” effect. As the brain builds tolerance to the drug, sometimes it is necessary to use drugs to counter the effects of drug dependence. It is wonderful that there are scientists trying to combat the need to use another addictive drug to counter an initially addictive drug. It will be interesting to see where this new research brings us.

The research being done is remarkable. Trying to understand how the brain works could be saving lives. Treatment for addiction is not easy to overcome and with this new science, it may be made more possible to overcome addiction. I’m anxious to see where this research will go.

I totally agree to you guys, Thanks to the Norwegian scientist for this amazing discovery. This will totally save and change a lot of lives. I hope this new discovery will be available soon, because a lot people are dying due to heroin overdose. My son almost died because of heroin. So my son and I decided to seek help in california drug rehab center . According to my son, the rehab center has the advance facility. After a year my son got clean and able to change his life for the better.
