Welcome to IGERT Coasts & Communities

Welcome to the UMass Boston Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Coasts and Communities fellows website! This website is dedicated to the research, activities, and accomplishments of the IGERT fellows. The IGERT program, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), was created to educate U.S. Ph.D. scholars with different backgrounds and help them develop deep knowledge in chosen disciplines and the necessary technical, professional, and personal skills to become leaders and creative agents for change. The UMass Boston Coasts and Communities Program seeks to create new graduate opportunities that provide selected trainees with the support needed for transdisciplinary scholarship.

IGERT fellows have the unique opportunity to innovate, collaborate, and learn with peers from different disciplines. Together, fellows travel to the Horn of Africa and develop and practice skills essential to global problem solving. Here, you can find the fellows’ profiles, narratives about their summer research, and their weekly blogposts.

These blogposts reflect fellows’ research and course work. They are written by the fellows and center on an issue that is related to the Coasts and Communities theme of the IGERT program and is relevant to each fellow’s interests. Enjoy reading further!
