About the Exchange

The College of Science and Mathematics’ at UMass Boston is proud to introduce the Scotland Exchange Program, which has been developed with our partners at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), an urban university in Glasgow with many similarities to UMass Boston.  Our faculty and staff have exchanged multiple visits, which have led to strong working relationships as well as a keen understanding of the programs and opportunities that might be available. These exchanges involve members of our Premedical Freshman Success Communities and GCU first-years who will each be abroad for one week.

Since 2010, UMass Boston and GCU successfully developed and implemented an innovative exchange program with several distinctive elements:

•   Inclusion of first-year students in their first semester
•   Involvement of communities, which permitted the exchange experience to be extended to all members, with great relevance for early academic engagement
•   Rich involvement of  students, faculty, and staff members from both universities, who grew together as a team of colleagues
