Writing assignment due soon!

Hi everyone,

I’m not sure if I made this reminder clear enough during class, so I’d like to reiterate: the final version of your writing assignment paper is due April 15th at 11:59pm on Blackboard (Course Materials > Writing assignment). Please upload several hours before the due date; late papers will be accepted but will have a significant deduction (30 points).

Zoom for future meetings

Hi everyone,

Thanks for letting your peer mentor know your meeting preferences. In accordance with your selection, I have set up a Zoom meeting for each of our remaining sessions. The invitation and meeting details are below.

I will update you about the status of website projects during our first virtual meeting. YES, you will still need to present a website to the group.

Grades will be taken as normal for each of these meetings. The meeting for Thursday, March 26, is especially important as we will have someone from the FSC advising you on how to do your first registration on your own (Fall 2020).

“See” you then!

Class is ONLINE for Thursday, March 12

Hi everyone,

Looks like our classes have now all moved to the online format. Your grade for tomorrow (March 12) will be calculated by your participation on our first online forum. Please go to Blackboard > Course Materials to find it.

You must not only post your own answers, but also respond to the answers your peers post. Still, you are only expected to be active for 50 minutes (starting at 9:30am).

Class cancelled Monday March 4

Good afternoon everyone,

I’m not sure what the university plans are for the snowstorm hitting tonight, but the inclement weather forecast for tomorrow combined with the independent nature of your project for the class mean that we can comfortably postpone our next meeting until Wednesday. As such, I am canceling class on Monday, March 4. If the university does not close the school and you’d like to come use the classroom to work on anything, you are free to do so.

Stay warm,

AP

2019 STEM Career & Internship Expo

Event Start Date: February 13, 2019 – 12 p.m.
Event End Date: February 13, 2019 – 4:30 p.m.
Location: Campus Center, 3rd Floor, Ballrooms A, B, and C

Meet with potential employers and hear from professionals and graduate students currently working in STEM fields to learn about the diverse kinds of work they do and ask questions about their experiences. This is your chance to meet with employers from the life sciences, environmental sciences, technology, biotechnology industries about summer 2019 internships and employment.

The STEM Internship Expo is designed to bring students, faculty, and employers together focusing on three specific areas:

  1. Awareness: Make students aware of employment opportunities, research, business and economic development in the region by promoting STEM industries.
  2. Engagement: Provide the opportunity for area employers, students, faculty, and staff to engage in a dialogue oriented around industry needs and the development of human capital. In doing so, a better understanding of what employers are looking for in terms of workforce development, how UMass Boston can best develop an ongoing partnership/collaboration with area employers and promoting STEM industries to students is gleaned.
  3. Internships and Jobs: Develop experiential learning opportunities for students with area employers/researchers and connecting these experiences to professional development and career objectives of students.

Details here.
