Geo-Chem Analysis and Artifact Processing from the Sarah Boston Site

Today was a rain day, so we spent our time back at the lab processing the soil samples we collected to test phosphate levels in the soils from Sarah Boston’s houseplot, her pasture, and the Swago parcel. Students learned the Eidt test, which allows us to quickly and simply test the presence of enriched phosphates in soils. We are hoping the results that come from these analyses will help us find likely areas for Sarah’s barn, or other outbuildings.

We also had a chance to wash some of the artifacts we’ve been finding this year!

A good sampling of the kinds of artifacts we find at the Sarah Boston Site: broken glass shards, redware sherds, and refine earthenware sherds, and brick
