These chapters were very interesting to me especially when Offred becomes closer with the commander. I also thought that that was kind of unusual because Serena doesn’t like Offred so for them to be getting closer, it jeopardizes her whole life as a hand maid. I think that she’s trying to replace Luke with the Commander, but I could Ben wrong. Another thing is her writing style is becoming more insight in her thoughts and less with the outside world. She reminisces more on her relationship with Luke.
What I noticed was that the narration became more past life and more information about Luke. I also found how when the flashbacks would happen, it’s a little limited and bias. I also believe that something that gets repeated in these chapters is women’s status and gender differences during this time. For example, in chapter 28, she’s in a flashback with Luke and their relationship. Luke was going to make love to her but Offred believes that there was a shift of power. Another example is in chapter 29 when Offred asks the Commander a question and his response was a response that seemed like she wasn’t intelligent. What I like about Margaret Atwood’s writing style is that it’s very different and doesn’t follow the plot structure throughout the whole book. Another thing that is reoccurring is her views of men. I feel like througout this chapter I see how Atwood views men as powerful, needy, and always in control. In conclusion, the story is getting deeper. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
