Tech Talk Series: “Breaking Barriers in Tech”
Monthly speaker events featuring women of color in tech, industry leaders, and alumni.
Topics will include navigating the tech industry, ethical technology, and overcoming systemic barriers. The focus will be on concrete steps participants can take to advance their tech careers, regardless of where they are today.
Potential series talks include:
- Creating your professional website
- Getting to the interview: application tips
- Participating in your first Hackathon

Skill-Building Workshops
Joint workshops on coding, UX design, cybersecurity, and AI ethics.
Led by UMB faculty, industry professionals, and peer mentors. Hands-on projects that align with real-world applications and career advancement.
Hackathon for Social Good
A weekend-long hackathon where students create tech solutions addressing digital equity and social impact.
Sponsored by [???], with a focus on providing necessary resources such as laptops and hotspots for participants.
Includes mentorship from industry professionals and prizes for top projects.
Mentorship & Networking Program
Pairing students with mentors, faculty, and professionals from G{Code}, CS faculty, and other partner organizations.
Monthly check-ins and career development workshops. Access to networking events with potential employers and internship opportunities.
“Tech Equity” Research & Publication Initiative
Collaborative research on digital equity, technology accessibility, and the experiences of underrepresented groups in tech.
Publishing findings in academic journals and presenting at tech conferences. Opportunities for students to co-author and gain valuable research experience.
“What’s out there for people like me?”
A talk focused on resources currently available to women and students of color in the tech field. Emphasis on professional and academic organizations, scholarships, grants, mentorships, and other resources.
