iPad in the Classroom Program

 

Call for Proposals

 

IT, Division of Education Technology and the Joseph P. Healey Library announce an opportunity for faculty to submit a proposal to use iPads to enhance their teaching during Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters. Interested faculty must submit a proposal to DLS@umb.eduby May 22, 2012 describing how they would use the unique features of the iPad in their academic discipline.  Eight faculty will be selected to receive an iPad loan.

IT, Digital Learning Studio and Healey Library consultants are available to meet with faculty prior to the proposal deadline to discuss your project proposal, recommend apps and app bundles, or assist you with the selection of published eBooks you will use in your course. Faculty members teaching in Fall 2012 and/or Spring 2013 are eligible for the program.  Contact: mary.simone@umb.edu or DLS@umb.edu to request to meet with a consultant.

Proposal Categories
The Committee is soliciting project proposals in four general areas, but any innovative project that supports teaching and learning will be considered eligible:

1. iPad as a Teaching Tool – Get an iPad to use in the classroom as a digital white board, a presentation tool or using any of the other 500,000+ iPad apps.
Two faculty recipients, one iPad each.

2. iPad as a Learning Tool – Deploy a mobile cart of iPads to your classroom for student use as individuals, pairs or in groups, depending on class size.

One mobile cart with fifteen student iPads, shared by two professors  
Selection of any of 500,000 apps for faculty and student iPads

3. iBooks Author – Create your own eBook. Work with Digital Learning Studio  staff to create an eBook with Apple’s iBooks Author or any other ePub app. Learn more at http://www.apple.com/ibooks-author/.

4. iPad as an eBook for Course – Adopt an eBook as your course textbook and have two-four  iPads available for your students on Healey Library Reserve for the semester

Project Timeline: Important Events

Program announcement April 20, 2012
Program proposals due May 22, 2012
Participants notified July 7, 2012
Luncheon for participants Fall, 2012 and Spring 2013 (TBA)
Participant presentations or reports End of Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 TBA
Return iPad Within two weeks of the end of the semester in which iPad was used.
