Companies I recommend

It’s hard to find companies that aren’t actively exploitative of people and resources, but they do exist. Here are some companies I recommend patronizing instead of their less ethical competitors.

Why do you want to buy things you don’t need anyway? It’s partly due to evolutionary biology, but it’s definitely not impossible to resist those urges – especially if you know what’s going on. The BEST approach for the earth and your own health and wallet is not to buy anything you don’t absolutely need. Checkout the anti-consumption movement in the news, in research, or on Reddit. Also look into minimalism, digital minimalism, capsule closets, etc.

Banks:

Avoid big banks, and put as much money as possible into Credit Unions. There are lots of local credit unions in Boston and surrounding areas.

Beauty:

You are perfect as you are. But if you really want to spend money on beauty products, try Credo (sustainably sourced products whose containers you can return to the store for discounts).

Cars:

(scroll down to purple graph), but much much better would be no car at all. Use mass transit and walk whenever you can. Bicycles are also great, just make sure to always wear a helmet.
