So far working with my wiki team hasn’t been too bad. I usually cringe at the idea of group projects because the work never seems to be balanced equally but I haven’t had that problem yet here. One of the major challenges of course is finding common times to work together when everyone is available especially because this is an online class, with a regular class we would have all been gathered together at a common time. Another challenge is that it is not always easy to get ahold of someone, especially if there is an urgent matter. So far my teammates have been pretty quick to respond to emails and such, so that hasn’t been too much of a problem. In order to communicate our group has used different forms of communication; we have used facebook, twitter, email, and the smartphone app GroupMe. I am in charge of the research portion and wasn’t able to find any articles about Spectacle Island through UMB’s indexes so I did my research through Google Scholar with the help of Zotero. The GroupMe app seemed to meet our teams needs pretty well, having something similar to that for the computer could have been extremely helpful, just because lengthy typing on a cell phone can get difficult and the screen doesn’t show as many messages at one given time. Looking at a live feed is much easier than an email log, I don’t know much about computer applications but I can imagine such a thing exists and my group could have utilized it.
