As I previously discussed smart mobbing is one of the fastest, most organized ways to relay information and form assemblies in this day and age. Almost every computer and cell phone has a direct and fast connection to the internet making things happen in almost the blink of an eye. Text messages and emails can be sent to pre-categorized groups of people with the touch of a button and these messages are just as easily forwarded on to the others. With the help of this technology these messages reach a maximum amount of people in a minimum amount of time. These advances are clearly having a direct affect on how people organize themselves, assemble, and protest. In previous years, I imagine that the word of mouth about such assemblies took days, weeks, or months to get out and by then the protests may have been irrelevant to what was still going on. However today people no longer have to mail letters, broadcast on the radio, hand out flyers, etc. Technology is playing a major role in how we interact with society as well as politics. Smart mobs are exactly what they sound like; a large group of people organizing themselves in a smart efficient way. My guess is we have only seen the beginning of smart mobs and that there are many more advnaces to come. I am interested to see what the future holds since in today’s world “new technology” seems to be outdated in a year or less.
