As simple as the concept of  “smart mobbing” seems it has had an effective role in society as well as history. One of the most notable events was the bringing down of the President of the Phillipines, Joseph Estrada. On January 20, 2001 a smart mob of over one million residents of Manila arranged an assembly that lasted four days. Together, they peacefully protested and brought down a government, all of this originated with one text message. Other incidents include “The Battle of Seattle,” in November of 1999, the groups in Britain that blocked fuel deliveries due to skyrocketing gas prices in Britain, as well as a violent political demonstration that occurred in the Spring of 2000 in Toronto. The speed, accessability, and convenience of text messages, emails, and other social media can turn a crowd of one to a crowd of a million in a matter of days, to me this is impressive and I think there will be many more smart mobbing incidents seen in the future. Smart mobbing is fact, effective, and can be a peaceful way of resolving an issue if the mobbers choose to do.
