Goldwater Scholarship, (6) The John W. Ryan Faculty Convocation Award and (7) Arthur W. Martin III Scholarship Award. Particularly, the Goldwater Scholarship is a very competitive scholarship, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious national scholarships in natural science, engineering, and mathematics in the United States. Also, the Ryan Award is awarded to the student who has achieved the highest cumulative average for four semesters in residence during the freshman-sophomore years at the University of Massachusetts Boston.  The Arthur W. Martin III Scholarship Award is the highest honor granted by the Department, awarded to one graduating physics major in 2025 who has demonstrated the highest academic excellence and outstanding research achievement.
