Akira Sone joined the UMass Boston Physics Department in September 2022. He received his B. Eng. in Applied Physics in 2013 from Keio University in Japan, supervised by Prof. Naoki Yamamoto, and Ph. D. in Quantum Engineering in 2019 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), supervised by Prof. Paola Cappellaro. During his first two years of graduate study, he was supported by Funai Oversea Scholarship from Funai Foundation for Information Technology in Japan . Before joining UMass Boston, he was a research software engineer at Aliro Quantum Technology, Inc, supervised by Prof. Prineha Narang (currently at UCLA), and a postdoctoral research associate at Los Alamos National Laboratory, supervised by Dr. Patrick J. Coles (currently at Normal Computing).
