The argument that I’m looking to make with my visual media project is related to the effects that the mobile dating app Tinder has on the user’s perception of dating.
These images work to represent the objectification that users experience when meeting with or interacting with users in person or in-app. The app allows for an online shopping-like experience for users, emphasizing options and choices for potential partners to the user. This perceived availability of other potential pursuits can take away from interactions made through the app, allowing for preoccupation with other matches while interacting with one person.
These images of a woman and a man kissing and of a couple out on a dinner date, work to emphasize Tinder’s ability to take away intimacy from these kinds of intimate moments.
