Add-Drop is now over for the Fall 2015 semester

Tuesday, September 15 was the last day to be able to add a course for the semester, or to be able to drop a course without a “W”.  If Wiser shows that you are still on a wait list for the fall semester, you can either drop yourself from that wait list, or not – it actually doesn’t matter at this time since Wiser will no longer be adding students to courses from the wait list through the automated process.  If you are still on a waitlist, you should also stop attending that course (if you haven’t stopped already).

The next chance to register for classes that you might not have gotten into this semester is on Monday, November 2 for Spring 2016 semester courses. Best wishes for a great fall semester!

Comments Off on Getting Enrolled into a Full CM Course

Getting Enrolled into a Full CM Course

Once a class is full, we allow wiser to automatically work through the waitlist whenever a seat opens up.  Occasionally, faculty will allow extra students into the course, over the prescribed capacity.  The CM Undergraduate Program Office must hear directly from the instructor if s/he wants to take extra students, and how many.  Even with the professors permission to add extra students, not everyone from the waitlist will be able to be moved into the course.  If you are able to get a seat in the course through the regular waitlist process or through a professor consenting to adding students to the course, you will see this reflected on Wiser (your status will got from “waiting” to “enrolled”).  Please note that when adding extra students, they are moved in the waitlist order using the same parameters noted above, and students must be on the waitlist before they can be added to the course.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

–       We will strive to have over-enrollment requests handled within two business days.  Please check wiser to check on the status of this.  Also, please bear in mind that the time an instructor tells you s/he will contact us, and the time we get the actual request may be different times, sometimes even different days.

–       We do not notify students of these registration changes when they happen; please keep checking Wiser.

–       Please note that to be fair to all students, we cannot move a student ahead of other waiting students.  We accommodate students in the order of the waitlists for over enrollment issues.

–       The last day to add a course this semester is SEPTEMBER 15. If you are not enrolled in a course by this date, there is no need for you to continue attending the course, as you will not be able to be added after this date.

Comments Off on Waitlists, Full Courses and YOU!

Waitlists, Full Courses and YOU!

Have you ever wondered how wait lists work on Wiser?  We may have some answers for you right here!

When a College of Management course becomes full, students have the option of adding themselves to the waitlist for the course.  Any seats that become available (usually from an enrolled student dropping the course for any reason) are filled with the waiting students, in the order they are waiting, until the course capacity is reached once again, and the course is back to being full.  Wiser automatically fills closed (or full) classes with waiting students multiple times a day.

Please note that if there is a registration conflict, Wiser will move to the next student on the wait list, and enroll him/her even if s/he is not the first person on the wait list.  Examples of registration conflicts are:

–          enrollment in another course at the same time;

–          enrollment in another section of the same course;

–          missing pre-requisites;

–           a hold preventing enrollment or registration changes

–          insufficient credits available for additional registration (the standard limit is 17 credits/semester)

Unfortunately, if a student is skipped by Wiser for theses reason, there is little to nothing we can do since wait list enrollments are automated and students can make schedule changes 24 hours/day.  Please take the necessary steps to avoid these issues and be sure you have no conflicts that would prevent enrollment into a course for which you are on the wait list.

College of Management courses do not have permission numbers attached to them. We use the wait list process ONLY to manage enrollments of full courses when a seat becomes available.

The last day to add a course this semester is SEPTEMBER 15. If you are not enrolled in a course by this date, there is no need for you to continue attending the course, as you will not be able to be added after this date.

Comments Off on CM Advisors and Walk-ins

CM Advisors and Walk-ins

During the add/drop period (9/8 – 9/15) all CM students with 60+ credits can come in for walk-ins between 9:0o-11:30 AM and 1:00-4:30 PM.  Our office will have limited front desk staff available to assist you between 11:30-1:00. All available advisors will be on walk-ins during those set hours to help minimize wait times.  We are located in McCormack Hall, 5th floor, room 610.

As some of you may know, Carlton Jones, academic advisor to students with 60+ credits and last names Rb-Z left UMass Boston for a position in his home-state, closer to family earlier this summer.  We are working in bringing in an experienced interim advisor to work with his students, as we continue our search for a permanent full time replacement.  If you had Carlton as your advisor, please watch your UMB email account for 2 announcements this semester.  In the meantime, all students can see any advisor who is available during our walk-in hours.

CM Students with fewer than 60 credits can see their academic advisor in the University Advising Center (CC-1100). Please contact them directly at 617.287.5500 for more information about walk-in availability.
