Preparing to Close

Preparing to Close

As Camp Shriver comes to a close, many of the counselors and campers are preparing to say their goodbyes.

Campers and counselors reminisced about their favorite memories of camp. Sammy Sears, Camp Shriver’s Summer Operation Coordinator, reflected on her fourth year at Camp Shriver stating that her favorite memory this year was going bowling because,  “Some campers never went bowling before and it was nice to teach them, it was a new experience.”  Another camp counselor, Katie, who is also an intern, stated that her favorite memory this year was “Meeting with all the campers and seeing how they interact with each other.”

I also talked to Dr. Gary Siperstein, who has been a part of the program for over 10 years and who stated that his favorite thing about the program was “seeing the smiles on kids faces” and “the thought of the children going back to school and the teacher asking about their experience, and the children raising their hand and having a huge smile on their face and saying ‘I went to camp Shriver!'”

Many campers are also excited for next year, especially Leslie, who is excited to see how people changed throughout the year.
