About SASS

The 2012 field season of Skagafjörður Archaeological Settlement Survey (SASS) is funded by the National Science Foundation Grant  1242829.  It is under the direction of Douglas Bolender, Brian Damiata, and John Steinberg.

The 2010 field season in Greenland is funded by the National Science Foundation Grant 1038339.  It is under the direction of Douglas Bolender, John Steinberg and Brian Damiata.

The 2009 field season of the Skagafjörður Archaeological Settlement Survey (SASS) is funded by the National Science Foundation Grants 0731371 & 0909393.  The project is a multi-year investigation of the settlement of Iceland.  The project is under the direction of John Steinberg, E. Paul Durrenberger, Douglas Bolender, Brian Damiata & Heather Trigg.  For more information on the project see

  1. hello, i have readen your investigation blog and it’s very interesting !!!
    we are a young french company of geophysic and we are looking for buying a new electromagnetic system we hesitate between the dualem 421s and the cmd explorer we would like to have if it ‘s possible your opinion between the both system!!
    we used to survey with quad gps and cart for archaeology, agriculture and building engineering
    we already know the dualem system but a lot of people says that cmd from gf instrument is better…
    if you can help us before buying an expensive survey system it would be great
    we also realize survey with ids stream X and gpr slice data processing..
