Story Corps is the WPA Oral History project of the 21st century, an attempt to create "the oral history of America."
"StoryCorps is a national project to instruct and inspire people to record each others’ stories in sound. So far, the project has built several soundproof recording booths across the country, called StoryBooths. Anyone can use these StoryBooths to record broadcast-quality interviews with the help of a trained facilitator. There are also two traveling recording studios, called MobileBooths, which embarked on cross-country tours on May 19, 2005.
To ensure that contributed stories live on for generations to come, all interviews are added to the StoryCorps Archive, housed at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
