About CPDD

The Center for Peace, Democracy, and Development (CPDD) is housed in the McCormack Graduate School of Global and Policy Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston and is affiliated with the Department of Conflict Resolution, Human Security, and Global Governance.  CPDD is dedicated to advancing democracy, rule of law, and economic and social development in post-communist, transitional, and developing areas abroad. Working with local partners, CPDD focuses on:

  • Strengthening local government and civil society
  • Promoting viable, independent media
  • Helping judiciaries become more effective and more transparent
  • Assisting in conflict reduction
  • Promoting greater educational and economic opportunities

CPDD builds highly effective, rule of law, judicial reform, media development, and educational exchange and training programs through ongoing partnerships with:

  • Foreign Universities
  • Courts and Judicial Associations
  • Development Agencies
  • NGOs
  • Citizens Groups
