Wiki Project
July 31, 2012
The wiki project took some time to accomplish but it was still done. It was always hard to communicate with my teammates because of the time. I’m constantly working day and night with flooring so by the time I am done working I am dead tired. The only way I communicated with each of my teammates were through emails even though the goal was to communicate through skype. Overall it was still a good experience getting a little feedback about the map I created. I was able to use zee maps as a guide to create the mapmashup. I’ve learned how to use new internet tools.
Smart Mob and Mobile Apps
July 1, 2012
Smart mobs have made it possible for citizens to connect with each other and share through a wireless internet access. That was the first step to smart mobbing. “High data-speeds made possible by radio-based technologies are likely to multiply the effects of mobile Internet in unpredictable ways, as well. In digital media, quantum leaps in speed often trigger qualitative jumps in the ways people use them” (Reingold). Mobile apps have taken the next step to networking and communicating with each other. Mobile apps create a more efficient way to load a social network such as Twitter or Facebook without opening up the internet browser. Mobile Apps have become a popular way to socialize with each other.
Smart Mob, a social evolution
June 28, 2012
Smart mob is becoming the next step to social evolution. Smart is a way to communicate with each other’s peers and get together. It has been a way to coordinate plans with friends or coordinate plans for protests. It has become a way to networks with one another. Smart mob doesn’t only apply through text messages, it also applies to Facebook messaging or “Tweeting.” It is an evolving communication tool. Facebook and “Tweeting” has become the next step to a social evolution. At first text messaging wasn’t a big thing when cell phones became popular. Because of smart phones and 3G networks, communicating without hearing each other’s voices has become popular. Text messages, private messaging on Facebook and “Tweeting” are the main and popular ways of networking. It is also a faster way of getting in touch with more than one person. Within 5 minutes of texting, FB messaging or “tweeting” hundreds of people are able to read your message.
SmartMob in the Philippines
June 28, 2012
As read in Ch. 7 of Reingold H, Smart Mobs, smart mobbing has become a tool for coordination. This historic event in the Philippines is something I am connected because I am Filipino and my family was part of that millions of citizens who gathered. I was completely unaware of what smart mobbing was and it is clear it’s actually a big part of my family history. This type of movement is showing that there is much growth, technology wise in other countries. Who knew with one text message that millions of citizens would gather for the greater good of their country. Because of smart mobbing, President Joseph Estrada lost his power in the Philippines.
