MBAMS 600 Mathematical Analysis for Managers

Summer 2013

Tu/Th 6:00-9:00pm

This course provides the mathematical skills and applications to support graduate study in the College of Management. One of the learning objectives of the graduate program is to “apply critical thinking and analytical competence to complex business problems” and this course is specifically designed to address that goal. This interactive and cooperatively focused course is designed for students with an interest in management whose mathematical background is rusty or incomplete or is just in need of a little bolstering.

As a managerially focused course, emphasis will be placed on how mathematical techniques are used to support and improve decision making. The course will use Excel and will explicitly address communication about quantitative material and critical thinking skills. Examples will be drawn from a variety of functional areas. A grasp of math and quantitative methods is essential for success in both future courses and many careers in business, and this course provides the background necessary for achieving this success.

MSIS612 IT Controls and Auditing
Fall 2013
Th 5:30-8:15pm

An introduction from Professor Daniel Lee

Hello, everyone! I want to introduce my MSIS612 IT Controls and Auditing course which will be offered in coming Fall semester (Thursday 5:30PM). This course is designed to learn and experience latest principles and practices of information technology (IT) controls and audit. The topics of internal control over IT-relevant business resources and processes (which mean almost everything!) are achieving more and more attention due to today’s growing business uncertainties, e.g., technology evolution, internal fraud, cyber-attack, natural disaster, etc. So, the career development in this area (e.g., internal auditor, IT auditor, chief information officer, chief technical officer, etc.) is getting more promising (in terms of both available positions and their higher payment scheme).

Basically, this is not a technical course, but will cover the control frameworks for IT management and the management of the IT-relevant audit functions within a firm. Therefore, neither the technical nor accounting experience is necessary to take this course. Practical applications of the learning from this course will include taking the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) exams in the future. Until now, multiple students in my past classes could successfully pass the CISA exam based on their learning through the course and are enjoying their career. I am so excited to invite you to my class and help you start your career development in the emerging and growing areas of IT control and auditing! Please find an interesting article regarding this career path:

http://www.theiia.org/intAuditor/itaudit/archives/2008/february/the-path-to-it-audit/.
