April 19: A Walking Tour of the Innovation District

For more information about this event, and to claim a free ticket, visit http://leatherwalk.eventbrite.com/#.

This tour is heading to South Street in the Leather District, which is becoming a hotbed for startups, as entrepreneurs escape the high rents of Kendall Square and Fort Point Channel (a/k/a the Innovation District). Students will get a chance to visit several different early-stage companies (and one venture capital firm), meet founders and key executives, and learn about what they do (not to mention hear about how they fill internships, hire people, and invest in entrepreneurs.) The goal of this event is to help current students (enrolled at any school, at any level, anywhere in the world) connect with and understand Boston’s innovation ecosystem. This is a free event.

We’re fortunate that Boston is full of them.

Are they right for you and, if so, how can you best position yourself for landing a role with a startup?

We’re bringing founders and top software/engineering execs to UMass Boston for an interactive workshop to help you figure that out. It’s intended for UMass Boston students interested in software, product development and technology related fields.

At the workshop we’ll cover the following topics:

  • What is it like to work at a start-up?
  • What are startups looking for when hiring students or new graduates?
    • How to prepare yourself for these roles while you’re in college
    • How to go beyond just a resume to better communicate your projects and passions to position yourself for these roles
    • What internship opportunities are available now for UMass Boston students
