New Paid Marketing and Sales Internships with High Tech Startups

The Venture Development Center and Entrepreneurship Center are now partnering up with Career Services to help UMass Boston students attain careers with high tech companies.  In the process of this transition, they have changed their internship application process.  To qualify for their paid high tech start-up internships, StEP now requires that all interested students view their workshop video which prepares students to intern with a high tech start-up.

New Entrepreneurship Sales and Marketing Course for Fall Semester

MKT 478 – Entrepreneurship Sales & Marketing

Course Description:

Entrepreneurship Sales & Marketing is a course that will prepare you for an entry level sales and marketing position in a startup initiative as well as prepare you to launch your own sales & marketing initiative in your own startup.  Live role play scenarios with experienced sales and marketing entrepreneurs will prepare you for the multiple areas of responsibilities and interactions within a startup organization as well as outward facing prospect and customer responsibilities and interactions that are required in a startup.  And you will be exposed to the overall process and tools that drive a sales/marketing organization in a startup.

Students will also be provided preparation assistance and given priority consideration to the internships offered through UMass Boston’s Student Entrepreneurship Program (StEP) http://www.umb.edu/entrepreneurship_center/step/

Internship Position: Marketing/Research Intern

 

Description:

  • Conduct Web and phone based research in the US life science/biotechnology research market to identify appropriate product features, specifications and identify targets for marketing and sales.
  • Conduct research of biotechnology, medical literature, and other journal/news databases and summarize key points of relevant articles relating to poorly served areas of biological sample preparation for genomics, proteomics and next generation DNA sequencing.
  • Compile succinct reports documenting the research for discussion and further evaluation by Pressure BioSciences senior management.
  • Document research, leads and contacts in Pressure BioSciences’ customer relationship management (CRM) database (Salesforce.com)
  • Work with VP of Research and Development and VP of Engineering to summarize the customer feedback into succinct product specifications.
  • Work with VP of Sales and Marketing to revise strategy for lead generation and customer outreach based on research knowledge and opportunities identified.
  • Accept special assignments as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Academic background in one of the life science disciplines and marketing
  • The good judgment to discern between relevant and irrelevant information
  • High motivation and creative approach to problem solving
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent command of English language
  • Experience with writing, proofreading and editing marketing literature
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, etc. 
  • Working knowledge of online market survey tools, e.g., Surveymonkey.com
